Hospital Offers Program to ‘Activate Summer Shield’
Statistics show the summer months allow children less-structured schedules, which can lead to less activity and fewer healthy food choices.
Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio is hosting the “Activate Your Summer Shield” program.
The program will run over six weeks in June and July to help kids learn to eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans, and to stay active.
Officials noted in a press release, children who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate for $15 per child for the entire program.
The program will take place in the hospital’s Reeves Auditorium on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on June 7, 14, 21 and 28 and July 6 and 13.
Hospital officials add each week the program “will focus on a different healthy topic” and will include a “make and taste healthy recipe,” an informative lesson and take-home activities.
The program is presented by the Union Hospital Community Health and Wellness and Nutrition Services Staff.
Registration is available online at www.unionhospital.org on the “Health Events” link, or by calling 330-308-3599.
