NCCS School Psychologist Named Franklin B. Walter Educator
A North Canton City School Psychologist receives regional recognition.
NCCS School Psychologist Heather Khuns is named as the SST-9 Regional Recipient of the Franklin B. Walter Outstanding Educator for 2018. The award honors an educator who has made outstanding contributions by improving access to and progress in the general curriculum for children and youth with disabilities.
Mrs. Kuhns has worked for the school district since 2005, and she is currently assigned to Orchard Hill Intermediate School and Greentown Intermediate School.
She has been instrumental in establishing the Response to Intervention (RtI) protocol within the district, and she is a key member of the Intervention Assistance Team.
She has organized special services parent collaboration opportunities, working with preschool, elementary, middle school and high school teams; scheduling group and individual building transition tours; facilitating Special Services professional development opportunities; training staff on IEP Anywhere; assisting with Individualized Education Program (IEP) compliance training; assisting with 504 plan compliance training, supporting Evaluation Team Report (ETR), IEP and 504 completion and compliance reviews; aiding with the supervision and monitoring of Extended School Year (ESY) services; and serving as District Representative for ETR and IEP meetings within district and out-of-district meetings.
The Franklin B. Walter Award was established in 1990 by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association to honor Franklin B. Walter, past Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ohio who served from 1977 to 1991.
Mrs. Kuhns will be honored at a state-wide luncheon on June 12th in Columbus.
