Hoover Names New Boys’ Basketball Coach

North Canton City Schools announce the new head boys’ basketball coach at Hoover High School.

Officials say Mike Bluey has completed his fifth season as the head coach at Tallmadge High School, leading the basketball team to a 15-8 record in 2017-2018. He previously served as an assistant coach at Mount Union University for two years and as the assistant varsity and junior varsity head coach at Jackson High School under Mike Fuline. Bluey was on the coaching staff that led the team to an OHSAA Division I State Championship in 2010.

Prior to coaching at Jackson, Bluey served as an assistant coach at Rootstown and Akron Springfield High Schools.

“His professionalism, knowledge of basketball and commitment to his student-athletes made him stand out during the interview process,” explained North Canton Athletic Director, Tim Walker. “We believe he will not only be an excellent coach, but also an exceptional role model for his players.”

The district community is invited to meet Coach Bluey and hear about the summer basketball plans this evening, Monday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the high school media center.
