On May 25th the Plain Township Board of Trustees will host the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the township’s first Splash Pad.
Officials say the ‘My Splash Pad’ designs have been installed in 40 states across the country. The design, developed by John Foraker and his team, has even been installed for HGTV’s My Yard Goes Disney, the NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, and Make a Wish.
“The splash pad is intended to not only enhance the park’s overall services available, but it serves as a perfect example of public/private partnership all while helping families alleviate some of the stress of warm summer weather,” explained Trustee Scott Haws.
He noted that there has always been an interest in having a place to go to cool off when the weather gets warmer in Plain Township. Haws explained that a pool was the typical request, but funding source challenges and ongoing liability insurance cost in maintaining the pool made the option not possible at this time.
He added that the park continues to be an ever-evolving location based on funding and collaborative partnerships. “Partnerships are instrumental given that Plain Township does not have a parks levy to fund operations, as its primary income source is through programming fees.”
On Friday, May 25th at 12:30 p.m. the township will hold the official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Splash Pad, located at Veteran’s Park, 1714 Schneider Street Canton, Ohio 44721.
“The Plain Township Board of Trustees and community are extremely grateful to John Foraker, owner of My Splash Pad, for his significant contribution to our community, which will ensure many have a fun place to rest, relax, and enjoy friends and family while staying cool,” said Haws.
