The Massillon City School District is searching for a new district leader.
Superintendent Rik Goodright announced his retirement this month after serving in the position for the last seven years. His final day will be Friday, June 1st.
The Massillon City School Board of Education accepted his resignation where Goodright cited caring for an ailing relative as the reason for his decision to step down.
In his letter of retirement, Goodright expressed the positive feelings he has toward the school district and the confidence he has in the current status. He noted “The district is on the doorstep of exploding,” and explained the school board is strong and passionate about the success of students.
Assistant Superintendent Mark Fortner will serve as interim while the board pursues a permanent replacement. The position paid Goodright a salary of $115,000 annually.
