Stark County Man Accused of Child Pornography-Related Charges Waives Right to Preliminary Hearing

(Massillon, Ohio) – A Jackson Township man charged with multiple counts related to exploiting children remains in jail on $1 million bond.

36-year-old Andrew Shonk, a former technology worker, is charged with pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor (F-2), and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance (F-5). Prosecutors note the victims included some who attended Rootstown Local Schools in Rootstown, Ohio.

Shonk allegedly possessed and reproduced “obscene material involving minors participating in or engaging in sexual activity.” He is accused of downloading the material onto his personal electronic devices.

Shonk was arrested after what investigators have referred to in other reports as ‘fluke incidents.’ On two occasions, he reportedly placed a laptop computer and two thumb drives on his car and drove off, causing the devices to fall off, without him knowing. Passerbys located the computer and drives, failed to get them unlocked and threw them in the trash. The thumb drives were turned over to Jackson Township Police.

On Thursday, Shonk appeared in court where his bond was held at $1 million despite his defense attorney requesting that it be lowered. His case was bound over to a grand jury, which is expected to review the evidence and determine if there will be a trial.
