School Partners with Police Department to Hire SROs
(Canal Fulton, Ohio) – Canal Fulton City Council moves forward with an agreement to place school resource officers (SRO) in Northwest Local School buildings.
On Tuesday, council members spoke with members from both the police department and the school district about the partnership. The agreement includes a one-year memorandum of understanding on the duties and costs associated.
Two school resource officers will serve in the position for one year at a total cost, including wages and benefits, for both at $176,000. The school district will fund 75% of the cost.
According to documents, the SROs will be available “to help provide a safe and secure learning environment, foster a positive school climate, reduce/prevent crime, serve as an educational resource and serve as a liaison between the school and the police department or sheriff’s office.”
