The Wilderness Center Offers Summer Days Family Nature Adventure Program

(Wilmont, Ohio) – The Wilderness Center is now taking registrations for their Summer Days Family Nature Adventure program.

Officials explained that this summer enrichment program is designed to bring children and their adults into the outdoors to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world.

“Children learn a love of nature and the outdoors from the adults in their lives,” said Education Manager Lynda Price. “There is really no substitute for time spent together in nature.”

Sessions have been designed specifically to intrigue and challenge children of different age groups and developmental stages. Children ages 4 to 6 will explore nature concepts, do simple experiments, create nature art, read outdoor stories and discover nature’s surprises. Our animal specialists ages 6 to 8 will explore special animal adaptations by playing games, exploring habitats, creating crafts, and making observations. The program for 8 to 10-year-olds will investigate a variety of wetland, forest and prairie habitats, and which animals are adapted to live in these unique places.

Children ages 10 to 14 are invited to explore the nightlife at TWC as they stay overnight in the building or set up a tent outside. Children and their adults will take a night hike, observe the stars through a telescope and take in a special planetarium show, make sparks and test your night vision with new and longtime friends.

Students will spend two days studying ecological communities in the forest, the prairie, and the pond. This course will focus on topics such as succession and populations while we hike, craft, and enjoy a fun, camp-like learning atmosphere.
