(Canton, Ohio) – A levy that would have provided funds to several school districts in Stark County is overwhelmingly turned down.
In a special election on Tuesday, August 7th the Stark County Educational Service Center went to voters in 16 participating school districts with a request for a continuous 1.49 mill levy. The levy would have generated roughly $225 per enrolled student per school year for every district participating.
60% of registered voters turned out to vote with 77% voting against the levy. Many school districts are currently pursuing other options to enhance school safety and security and mental health services funded by current budgets. There is no word on whether another levy attempt will come in the future.
