Former Stark County Elementary Could be Demolished
(Plain Township, Ohio) – The Stark County Educational Service Center is moving forward with the demolition of Edgefield Elementary.
In a regular scheduled meeting of ESC this week, members approved a motion to seek bids from companies to demolish the former building at 2100 38th Street NW. The building was built back in 1915 and acted as the ESC’s offices until earlier this year when most operations relocated to Stark State College’s main campus in Jackson Township.
The former elementary, a 21,000-square foot building, according to reports, contains asbestos, has a leaky roof and is in need of other renovations. ESC officials have noted they plan to work with the Plain Township Historical Society to preserve any historically significant items should the demolition take place.
Documents indicate the demolition could happen as early as January 2019.
