Parents: You Get Less Than An Hour of Free Time a Day!
(U.S.) – Research conducted by the meal service, Munchery, suggests parents have just minutes to themselves every day, and many have to hide from their kids to get it!
The study focused on the everyday lives of 2,000 moms and dads and discovered that the average parent is lucky to get just 32 minutes of ‘me time’ every day once work and parenting duties are finished.
With those sacred minutes difficult to get, some parents polled even admitted to hiding from their kids in order to sneak a few of those precious moments.
The study also uncovered that 32 percent of parents surveyed explained they don’t really finish ‘working’ until at least 8:00 p.m. or later, factoring in their jobs as moms and dads. A full-time working parent spends 18-hours on average directly taking care of their kids every week, on top of their 40-hour work week!
The study also found that 24 percent of parents polled spend even more time directly taking care of their kids, 30 hours a week!
Also factored into all of this parental responsibility, according to the survey, an average of six car journeys per week taking kids to school and other activities, five trips to the grocery store a week and addressing misbehaving little ones an average of five times a week.
This hectic schedule also tends to affect the eating habits of parents with 88 percent of parents admitting to being too busy to cook and 96 percent reporting they don’t have enough time to cook, which means they dig into less healthy food options.
Parents are so busy, that according to the research, they skip 227 proper meals every year.
So, if you’re feeling like you need a little ‘me time,’ don’t feel guilty…you deserve it!
