November 2018 Election Results

(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – A complete result list of the issues on the November 2018 ballot in both Stark and Tuscarawas Counties directly affecting our children!

While some results are still awaiting final certification, here is what we have so far.

Governor – First and foremost, Ohio has a new Governor, Republican Mike DeWine. DeWine defeated former Attorney General, Richard Cordray with 54% of the votes compared to Cordray’s 43%.

A new Ohio Attorney General was also named in Dave Yost as well as several other state races including representatives and senators.

Issue One – Also, in statewide races and issues, Ohio overwhelmingly defeated Issue One with 70% of voters turning it down. The issue would have enacted a constitutional amendment that would have drastically changed Ohio’s drug-related laws and punishments by reducing many offenses.

Local

Locally in Stark County, the Stark County District Library did not see voter support of an 8-year additional 2.2 mills, current expense levy. The levy was requested to enhance the services the library currently provides and to move forward with several updates and improvements.

Stark County School-Related Issues

  • Voters turned down a bond issue for the Marlington Local School District, 56% of voters saying no and 44% of voters in favor of the issue.

Tuscarawas County School-Related Issues

  • Buckeye Career Center saw overwhelming support from voters who passed the renewal levy by 61% of the votes.
  • Dover City Schools did not see voter support in a request for a 5-year 8.5 mill additional emergency operating levy. Voters denied the request with 61% of the votes.
  • Garaway Local Schools also saw a levy fail at the polls with 54% of voters turning down the request.
  • Voters in the Indian Valley Local School District turned up to push through a bond issue that will pave the way for a new football stadium and track. The issue was approved with 59% of voters in favor.
  • The New Philadelphia City School District also saw voter support as they passed a 5.9-mill renewal levy with 54% of voters casting yes ballots.
