(Akron, Ohio) – This month at the Project Ed Bear Gala Auction, more than 30 Outstanding Bravery Awards will be distributed to children battling cancer.
Later this month the organization will host the 24th annual Project Ed Bear Gala Auction where they will honor 30 childhood cancer survivors at the Peter Pan themed event at Quaker Station.
This year’s Gala Auction on Mon., Nov. 26, 2018, will transport guests to Neverland while celebrating more than 30 local children (dubbed event VIPs) that have battled or are currently battling cancer. Children like Mark from Tallmadge, OH, will have the opportunity to walk a red carpet while the expected sold-out event guests stand to celebrate him.
In 2007 Mark was diagnosed with AML Leukemia, and as part of Mark’s cancer treatment, he had a bone marrow transplant. Shortly after the procedure, Mark started having breathing issues and was diagnosed with Obliterative Bronchiolitis. Today, Mark is waiting for a life-saving double lung transplant.
When asked about Project Ed Bear, Mark’s mom Terrace stated, “Susan and Project Ed Bear have not only been an amazing help to my son but have given us a chance to help bring a smile to other kids that need all the love and happiness we can share.”
Project Ed Bear, a non-profit that has been comforting local kids with cancer since 1994, began after then 11-year-old Ede received a non-cancerous diagnosis from bone tumors all over his body. Seeing children suffering from cancer during his hospital stay inspired Ede and his mom, Susan Summerville, to help those in need.
“At the Project Ed Bear Gala Auction, our kids get standing ovations, receive gifts donated by generous sponsors and volunteers, and are celebrated for their bravery and kindness—not their cancer,” states Summerville. “Our organization is run entirely on volunteers, and because of donors like you, we can continue to provide light and hope to our kids. We hope you join us!”
Tickets to Project Ed Bear Auction Gala are $50, and proceeds directly benefit Project Ed Bear and its mission to provide comforts and needs to children suffering from cancer throughout Northeastern Ohio with programs like Camp Ed Bear, The Project Ed Bear College Scholarship Program, as well as the efforts of Liv Thru Art.
The event begins at 5:00 PM at Quaker Station located at 130 E. Mill Street, Akron, Ohio 44308, and will feature a silent auction with available items like a Paul McCartney autographed guitar and a ride on the Goodyear Blimp for two.
