Beginning December 3, 2018, county residents who wish to apply, renew, or report a change for SNAP (food), TANF (cash) or Medicaid (medical) benefits can do so by phone.
Tuscarawas County is included in a county shared services group serving Tuscarawas, Harrison, Jefferson, Ashland, Richland, and Portage counties.
Consumers will call 1-844-640-OHIO (6446) where their call will be answered by an eligibility specialist in one of the six counties mentioned. By calling this number, a SNAP, TANF or Medicaid application will be completed over the phone and an electronic signature will be captured. A face-to-face interview or paper application will no longer be required to apply for benefits over the phone; a renewal of benefits can be completed over the phone, and consumers can report changes to their existing case over the phone.
Tuscarawas County has been participating in county shared services for Medicaid since May 2016. With the addition of the food and cash assistance programs being added in December to the system, this will now be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for consumers.
