An investigation is underway into a statement made by district superintendent

(Canton, Ohio) – The Canton City School Board of education is investigating a statement made by the district’s superintendent at a recent football game.

According to reports, the incident occurred on November 9th at a playoff football game for McKinley High School. Superintendent Adrian Allison reportedly sent an email to the Board of Education just before 12:30 a.m. following the game to explain what transpired.

Reports indicate he explained hew as notified by a parent that members of the band were being disrespectful to adults during the game and that they’d been that way throughout the season. Allison then explained he’d called the students over to him to talk with them.

According to Allison’s email to the board, a student interrupted him while he was reprimanding the group and Allison explained, “I told him that he was a disrespectful little boy or however he identified.” The student allegedly also “cussed Allison out” and was then escorted away by two principals. Allison has explained his statement about how the student identified was an attempt to respect his choice, not to disrespect him.

Allison’s statement has triggered a reaction from some in the district considering the student he directed his comment to is gay.

This investigation comes amid an already uncertain future for Allison within the Canton City School District. Last fall the Board of Education placed him on an improvement plan and he was given a one-year contract, which is set to expire at the end of July unless he is awarded a new contract.
