Big Brothers Big Sisters adds Sensory Friendly Option to Annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake
(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Big Brothers Big Sisters is teaming up with Starlight Enterprises, Inc. to provide additional options for the annual fundraiser.
Every year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio hosts its largest fundraiser of the year, Bowl For Kids’ Sake. In past years, the event has included three community bowls at different locations where participants celebrate their fundraising efforts with a party complete with bowling, pizza, and prizes.
This year, the agency has teamed up with Starlight Enterprises, Inc. in order to add a sensory-friendly option that is open to anyone in the community. “We wanted to provide this additional option so that all of the children we serve and organizations we partner with would have the opportunity to participate” explained Olivia Scally, Director of Development and Marketing at BBBS. The Sensory Friendly Bowl For Kids’ Sake will take place on Friday, March 22nd at Boulevard Lanes.
Starting out, there are two time slots available. Participants can bowl from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. In addition to what is included in the original community bowl events, the sensory friendly date will feature hands-on activities provided by STEAM Centers, fewer bowlers per lane, a special quiet zone, adapted sound and lights at the alley, additional volunteers to assist with registration and schedule, and more.
Starlight Enterprises, Inc. has championed this event to assist Big Brothers Big Sisters with planning the logistics and will be participating in the event. “We wanted to get advice of what this would look like and partner with a local agency that we felt would be a great advocate and resource” Scally added. “Starlight Enterprises, Inc. has been a vital part of this planning process and has given us a significant start with participants.” -more- Big Brothers Big Sisters adds Sensory Friendly Option to Annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake. Scally noted, “We invite anyone to come out on this date and participate. While the environment will be beneficial to a number of individuals, we would love to see any members of our community bowl alongside these participants.”
The event asks all participants to fundraise a minimum of $40 to participate in the event. This fundraising can be done a number of ways. A number of Starlight participants will be selling some of their artwork to raise funds for their Bowl For Kids’ Sake teams. Businesses and offices can host dress down days, bake sales, or other events to raise money on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
