New Ohio Abortion Restriction Leads to Lawsuit
(Ohio) – Planned Parenthood is suing the state of Ohio for a law that reportedly bans dilation and evacuation abortions.
Before leaving office, former Governor John Kasich signed the ban on one of the most common abortion methods known as D&E. According to the CDC, D&E abortion is commonly used in second-trimester abortions.
According to a statement released by Planned Parenthood, officials argue the procedure is the safest abortion method after about 15 weeks of pregnancy and the only current option that can be performed in outpatient facilities.
The lawsuit, which asks that the law not be enforced because it is unconstitutional, was filed in federal court in Cincinnati on Thursday. Attorney General David Yost has said publicly that he plans to “vigorously defend” the law’s constitutionality.
