Smoking in vehicles with kids could soon be banned

(Ohio) – A new bill has been introduced in Ohio that would make it illegal to smoke in a vehicle if children under the age of six are present.

State Senator Tina Maharath, who represents Franklin County, introduced the bill this week.

The legislation would focus on any lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or lighted smoking device used to burn tobacco or any other plant.

If the bill is approved, violators would be fined $500 and repeat offenders would be fined $500 plus an additional $250 for each subsequent violation.
