(Canton, Ohio) – Nearly a dozen people are facing charges following a riot at a juvenile prison facility in northeast Ohio.
Nine people are facing charges now in connection with the January riot at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Center in Massillon, roughly 15 minutes west of Canton. Five teenagers, ages 15 to 17 were charged this week with offenses ranging from kidnapping, vandalism, and aggravated rioting to assault and harassment by an inmate, all felonies.
The recent arrests take the total number of people charged to nine after four men were charged earlier this year. Reports from the Canton Repository indicate there were 10 youth and 16 youth-specialists involved in the incident.
No information on the tenth youth has been released.
