Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day is one of my favorite holidays! I love the color pink, making things, hearts, chocolate, flowers, giving—so why wouldn’t I love this holiday?!

I also love Pinterest and its exploding with ideas for Valentine’s day and that alone makes me very happy! While also very busy. Crafts, stickers, cards, candy bags, amazon orders—our girls love it too!

They even almost talked me into glitter this past week, but I stood my ground on that one or I would still be finding glitter in the carpet. We’ve done that before, but we just stuck with paint this time. Anyway, the girls and I made cards and talked about love and what makes people in our lives so special.

While they were cracking me up about what they love about their daddy and people in our lives we were making cards for, I wanted to freeze this time with them, (when I wasn’t yelling about not painting on the table or taking the scissors), because they love to be with me and do fun things together, and they are beginning to love this holiday as much as I do.

They love to bless people too, make them feel loved and special and I love how they squeal in excitement about the little things like giving someone a card. This Valentine’s day, however, my sweet husband and I are taking a few days just the two of us, to celebrate our anniversary a little early. I’m excited to be able to focus on us and our marriage and friendship for longer than a few occasional interrupted minutes here and there- to remember and notice the things about him I fell in love with.

He’s truly my best friend and I can’t help but be excited to go away and just be okay with sitting and listening to him, or being at an airport for an extra-long layover because I’ll be with him and that is enough. To be honest, though, I’m already sad about being away from the kids…well, it’s bittersweet. I’ll miss them, especially that little fuzzy-headed chubby boy, and all his smiles and giggles when he wakes, but as my husband reassured my worrisome and anxious heart last night that ‘it will be okay..they will be okay.’ I’ve been praying extra hard this week over them and trusting God to bring us all back home together again.
So whatever your valentines day plans are or lack thereof, at least remind the people you love that you love them over the moon and that means something special to you. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples—it’s just about the ones you love. I remember a few years ago, married and all, with our baby twins, living over an hour away from my dad and on Valentine’s Day,  I had a knock on the door from a deliveryman and it was flowers my dad sent me for Valentine’s Day. Made my heart so full & I’ll always remember that.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
