Trying to stay cool, I know they’re watching

So last time I wrote to you I talked about my disability and hAcks I have had to come up with to survive. Today I want to talk about fear about difference, lack of control, and fear of change.

I have felt broken, worthless, and wondered what the point of continuing on would be, I remember I am trying to stay cool because I No they are watching. My kids have been instilled with the moral that it is OK to be different. Sometimes I forget it’s OK to be different, and the mental exhaustion I gain from that sometimes makes it impossible, but I have to remember it is OK to be different the world needs different.

According to https://disabilitycompendium.org/sites/default/files/user-uploads/2016_AnnualReport.pdf 12.6% of Americans have a disability so I am not alone.

In 2015, of the US population with disabilities, over half (51.1%) were people in the working- ages of 18-64, while 41.2% were 65 and older. Disability in children and youth accounted for only 7.2% (ages 5-17) and 0.4% (under 5 years old).

The reason I am writing this it’s because sometimes our society is scared of change, the scared of difference. I know through this pandemic a lot of people are feeling trapped, scared, and lack of control. Just remember it’s OK to be different and embrace change, and every problem you’ve been through you’ve survived. You’re stronger than you think you are, keep going and if it is for the kids find your motivator and just keep going for today.

“The Bible says to ‘fear not,’ but this doesn’t mean you should never feel scared. It means when you do feel fear, keep going forward and do what you are supposed to do. Or as I like to say, do it afraid.”

Our family needs us, our friends need us, The Community needs us, we can do this keep our cool, and know that it’s OK to be different. Know it’s OK to embrace your fears , And no you’re not alone other people are scared too. We May not be afraid of all the same things, but we have all experienced fear. embrace the difference, use the people who love you, who believe in you and let everything else fadeaway in the background.
