Health order requires schools to report coronavirus cases

(Ohio) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently announced a new health order requiring schools to report coronavirus cases in students and staff.

DeWine indicated K-12 schools must report cases to the local health department as quickly as possible after learning of a positive case of COVID-19. Additionally, the schools will be required to make the information publicly available, and to notify parents and guardians in writing. However, schools will not disclose protected health information.

Weekly, local health departments will notify the Ohio Department of Health about new cases in schools and the data will be posted to the state department’s website every Wednesday.
