A Little Development Goes a Long Way

New moms and veteran moms never stop worrying about their babies. Monitoring their development is usually a big stressor.

This informational campaign comes to you in partnership with the Stark County Community Action Agency.

Understanding your child’s growth and development can help quiet thoughts of doubt and moments of anxiety in parenthood. Your baby’s first few years are instrumental to their learning and growth. Your role as a mom is crucial. Reading, singing, and talking to your infant go a long way. As their caretaker, you can support them by:

  • Smile and show sensitivity
  • Respond to your child in an appropriate and predictable way
  • Establish and maintain household rules and routines
  • Provide health and safety for your child
  • Read and talk with and to your baby regularly
  • Discipline your child in a gentle, consistent, appropriate way

Developmental milestones are an excellent way to monitor and ensure your child’s growth. You can find a list of age-appropriate developments on the CDC’s website here: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html. Regular wellness visits and health screenings are a good way for you AND your healthcare provider to assess your child’s development. If you have any concerns, speak with your pediatrician.

The SCCAA Community Actions Pathway HUB is an available resource for pregnant and new mothers in need of support, education, and community services.
