This year, Kyra Garbrandt turned 11-years-old. When her parents asked what she’d like for her birthday, she didn’t say a new iPhone, an iPad or clothes.
She asked for dog food, bones, cat treats, and animal dental items!
For the second year in a row, this sweet little girl asked that instead of buying her birthday presents, people buy supplies for the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
Her mother, Jamie Menapace, told Newsymom.com, “The love Kyra has for animals is huge. She loves them all.”
When Kyra was asked what she wanted for her birthday, Menapace explained that she couldn’t think of anything and that’s when she said she wanted to donate to the humane society again.
According to the Humane Society’s website, “The vision of the Tuscarawas County Humane Society is to create a community where all animals receive appropriate care, love, and attention at all times; are treated with dignity and respect; provided necessary veterinary care; and protected from all forms of cruelty, abuse and neglect.”
Most of what the society has or gets come through donations.
While the birthday girl was thinking of the animals in need, her mother still worked to surprise her for her party.
“Everything that was donated from Kyra, were gifts from her party so it was a surprise to her too,” Menapace explained. “Items received/donated were dog and cat food, dog and cat treats, toys and dental items.”
When Kyra was asked why she felt the need and want to do this she explained it was because “[the animals] don’t have their forever home yet and she wanted them to know they are loved and won’t go without.”
Menapace added, “As Kyra’s mom, I feel accomplished in the way I feel I’m raising her to be the generous young lady she’s becoming and not always only caring about herself. I am beyond proud of her and I feel she’ll continue to do this!”
Kyra has mentioned that one day she wants to become a Vet Tech!

you know everyone needs to think about animals in shelters and treat them well :))
This is so beautiful! We are all proud of her. If we actually take the time and talk and really look at our kids we will see the beauty they bring to our world! Thank you Michael 😍
