Dover Library to Offer Virtual Teen Tuesdays this Fall

(Dover, Ohio) –  Dover Public Library invites local teens in grades six through twelve to participate in Teen Tuesdays virtually this fall.

Weekly virtual events will take place at 3:00 PM starting on Tuesday, September 8 using the online platform Zoom. Each week will feature a different activity for teens including crafts, games, and more. Free supply kits will be available for pick up at the library each week. Registration is required to participate in the Zoom meetings. Interested teens can email Teen/Outreach Services Manager Liz at  strausel@doverlibrary.org, register at www.doverlibrary.org/register, or call 330-343-6123. An email address is required for registration. Teen Tuesdays are funded in part by a 21st Century Grant with Dover High School, which supports learning opportunities outside of classroom walls.

Virtual Teen Tuesdays kick off on September 8 at 3:00 PM with DIY Postcards. Kits will include blank postcards for teens to decorate. Participants will learn how to create fun and easy art on their postcards to send to friends and family.

Next, on Tuesday, September 15 at 3:00 PM, Teens are invited to take part in a digital escape room experience to see if they can Escape the Museum. The accompanying art project takes a look at ancient art as teens are challenged to make a figure out of clay.

Tuesday, September 22 at 3:00 PM, Teens will discuss Banned Books Week, make a Book Bracelet, and learn how to create Black Out Poetry.

Finally, on the last Tuesday of September, Teens will get ready for Inktober, the month-long art challenge. Participants will receive a mini sketchbook and a pen in their kits to draw along throughout the month of October.

“We want to give teens the chance to connect with each other and create with each other in a relaxed and safe environment,” says Teen/Outreach Services Manager Liz Strauss. “That’s what we’ve always tried to do with Teen Tuesdays. This year, we’re just going to do that a little differently.”

Teens who cannot connect via Zoom are welcome to take free weekly kits in the Teen Room and participate individually. Instructional videos on each activity will be available approximately one week after each virtual event.

The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. in Dover, across the street from Dover High School, and online at www.doverlibrary.org
