The times and guest speakers presenting at the Massillon Public Library on Saturday, May 7, will be:
12:30 p.m. — Introduction to Genealogy, Presented by Stephanie Houck, Genealogy & Special Services Manager, Stark Library. This program takes you through the basics of doing genealogical research. Learn about pedigree charts and family group sheets as well as the types of documents and records that will help you build your tree. This program is great for beginning researchers, but it can also help those who just need a refresher!
2:00 p.m. — Massillon Then and Now: Spring Hill and the Rotch-Wales Families Presented by Kayla Metzger, Site Manager, Spring Hill Historic Home and Underground Railroad Site. The earliest part of modern-day Massillon was once the village of Kendal, founded by Thomas and Charity Rotch on April 20, 1812. Kendal predated the founding of Massillon by James Duncan in 1826. Spring Hill, the Rotch-Wales farmstead, is the oldest standing home in the area that still appears as it did when it was built. This presentation will cover the role of the Rotch and Wales families in the social, cultural, and economic development of Massillon over a span of 150+ years.
