Tales in Time: Addy & the Underground Railroad -Stark County

Tales in Time – Spring Hill Historic Home

Saturday, June 11 | 10:30am @ Spring Hill Historic Home
1401 Springhill Lane NE, Massillon, OH 44646

Bring your favorite character doll to this American Girl-inspired program at Spring Hill Historic Home. In this program we will be featuring Addy Walker, a brave girl growing up during the Civil War (in 1864) who flees from slavery with her mother. They headed north on foot to Philadelphia in the Free State of Pennsylvania. The inspiring Addy series from American Girl is available at the Massillon Public Library, our partner for this program.

Spring Hill (circa 1821) was a safe house or “station” for escaping slaves long before the Civil War. After hearing about Addy’s experiences and the local Underground Railroad, you will have a chance to see some of the actual hiding places in the home and on the property. The program will close out with an activity.

The farmhouse parlor is an intimate gathering place, so registration is capped to 10 students and 1 accompanying adult per student. This program is free but registration is required. The program is intended for students ages 8-11.
