A year of big change is set within the Indian Valley Local School district for the upcoming school year.
(Gnadenhutten, Ohio) Superintendent, Ira Wentworth, said this school year will mark the first in which the district will arm select staff members on campus.
“Schools safety is always a topic of consideration and reflection and review and planning. You look at a cost-effective way to provide the safest environment.”
Wentworth said studies helped the district make the move.
“Being a hard target as opposed to a soft target is the number one deterrent in school violence incidents.”
He explained selected staff has undergone extensive training throughout the summer months.
There is no word on how many staff members at each of the district’s four buildings will be armed.
Wentworth added that if the staff is not armed by the first day of school, Wednesday, August 24th, they will be shortly thereafter.
