Stark County high school announces graduation will go on

Sandy Valley Local Schools is announcing a plan to honor and recognize the class of 2020.

The district took to Facebook this week to announce graduation will still take place on Sunday, May 17.

Officials explained in the post that due to COVID-19, it will not look the same as a traditional ceremony.

“However,” officials explained, “with the Governor allowing limited accessibility beginning in May, graduation will be in two parts.”

First, graduates walk across the stage at set times from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. to have their pictures taken in their caps and gowns and receive their diplomas.

Second, a graduation video will be premiering the ceremony that evening at 7 p.m. highlighting the Class of 2020.

“We have many surprises in store for our seniors including a photo of them receiving the diploma, DVDs of the video, and senior t-shirts – all at no charge to parents or students” school officials added in the post. “We know these plans are different than in the past, but we believe this graduation will be special for all of our seniors and showcase their hard work and accomplishments.”
