If your toddler is constantly moving around, take a break and have them hop on this heart hopscotch this Valentine’s Day.

Bring the outdoors in with having your toddler play hopscotch. You can make it Valentine’s Day theme by using pink and red paper and making the steps hearts.

There’s many different ways to play hopscotch, but you can do what works best for your toddler. One way that can be played is having them count and recognize the numbers. You could also put different shapes or letters on the paper if they’re learning about them.

Any way you choose to play, it all has the core materials.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Paper – card stock works best
• Painters tape
• Marker
• Scissors
• A plastic lid

The first thing you should do is decide what you want on your cards. As was stated before, whatever you choose will be perfect for your child. Traditional hopscotch has 12 squares to jump through. Although, you can do however many.

After you draw the numbers, shapes, or letters, cut them out in heart form instead of just the paper square.

Next, figure out where you want to set it up.

When you find a big enough area, secure the hearts down with tape. To make sure they really stick, you could go around the outsides, or cover the down-facing side.

Then, it’s time to play.

Take a recycled lid from a juice bottle or milk lid to have your child toss. Then show them how to do it.

After they get the hang of heart hopscotch, they’ll want to keep playing all by themselves. This will give you time to get some things done, while your toddler wears themselves out. Best of all, they’ll be learning too.
