Hey mamas… As the dreaded springtime change approaches, it’s time to brace ourselves for the chaos that comes with losing that precious hour of sleep by springing our clocks forward on March 10th. (Can we PLEASE stop the back and forth please?!) But fear not! With a bit of creativity and a whole lot of coffee, we can conquer this annual hurdle like the supermoms we are.

Here are five tips to help you and your family survive the impending time warp:

1. Start Preparing Early (But Not Too Early)

Let’s face it, we all know the time change is coming, but that doesn’t mean we’re actually prepared for it. Instead of waiting until the last minute to adjust, start gradually shifting your family’s bedtime and wake-up time a few days before the big day (i.e. now). Just don’t start so early that you end up confusing your family into thinking it’s daylight saving time in the middle of February. That might lead to some serious sleep deprivation!

2. Embrace the Power of Darkness

When it comes to getting your little ones to bed at their new “earlier” bedtime, darkness is your best friend. Invest in some blackout curtains or get creative with blankets and towels to block out any pesky sunlight that might tempt your kids to stay awake. And don’t forget to banish all electronic devices from the bedroom – nothing kills a bedtime routine faster than the glow of a smartphone screen.

3. Bribery Works Wonders

Let’s be real, sometimes a little bribery is necessary to get the job done. Promise your kids a special treat or outing if they cooperate with the new bedtime routine leading up to the time change. Whether it’s a trip to the ice cream shop or an extra hour of screen time (gasp!), sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to keep the peace.

4. Stock Up on Coffee (and Wine)

Let’s not kid ourselves – adjusting to the time change is just as tough on us moms as it is on our kids. That’s why it’s crucial to have a fully stocked arsenal of caffeine to get us through those early mornings and cranky evenings. So go ahead, treat yourself to that extra-large latte or steaming hot cup of tea – you’ve earned it!

5. Lower Your Expectations

Last but certainly not least, remember to cut yourself some slack. The transition to daylight saving time is never easy, and there’s bound to be some hiccups along the way. So if your kids are a little extra cranky or you end up running late to school drop-off, just remember that you’re doing the best you can. And hey, there’s always next year to perfect your time change game plan!

Keep these tips handy for a better night’s sleep!
