Just shy of her 100th Birthday beloved actress Betty White has died. White was gearing up to celebrate her 100th birthday on Jan. 17. White spoke to PEOPLE recently about how she was feeling about turning 100 years old. “I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age,” she said. “It’s amazing.” White’s career spanned decades. Long before her hilarious roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the ’70s and The Golden Girls in the ’80s, in 1952 she even appeared in the classic I Love Lucy-like Life with Elizabeth, which she also produced. Born Jan. 17, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois, Betty Marion White, was an only child. She moved with her parents, traveling salesman and electrical engineer Horace White and homemaker Tess Curts White, to Los Angeles during the Great Depression. Betty lived through and witnessed most of what many of us have only learned about in history books. She did more than any one article could ever do justice. From countless voiceovers, appearances in sci-fi horror films like Lake Placid, and iconic performances in ads like the unforgettable Snickers commercials. She hosted Saturday Night Live and was the emcee for countless awards shows. Her career was one to be reckoned with. She was even entered in the Guinness World Record book in 2014 as the holder for “longest TV career for an entertainer (female).” Her snarky, honest, and absolutely relatable personality and sense of humor worked her into the hearts of us all. She was the grandmother, best friend, mentor, and even bodyguard (literally no one would take on Betty White) we all wanted. A fiery spirit that will never be forgotten.
