Breast Milk Donations Needed: Demand Up 30% This Past Year

Breast Milk Donations Needed: Demand Up 30% This Past Year–The last year has seen an increase in need for safe, human milk. If you’re a breastfeeding mom and can donate your extra breast milk, learn where to drop off here at Newsymom!

Though breast milk is a renewable resource, across the country we’re seeing a shortage of donations. Here in Ohio, the need for donors has increased by 30% in the past year! Having a steady supply of safe, human milk is a priority to keep fragile babies well-fed and healthy.

Learn more about how to become a donor, find the drop-off location nearest you, and save the lives of babies who need it most!

Become A Donor

Mothers interested in becoming a donor go through a screening process to ensure their breast milk is safe for babies. The breast milk is then pasteurized, frozen, and distributed by physician prescription to babies needing it most–those in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

If you’re a breastfeeding mom and can help the cause of saving babies’ lives, OhioHealth Mothers’ Milk Bank is accepting new donors to add to their bank!

To become a breast milk donor, you can get started by any of the following ways:

  • Call Marla Wilson, the Nurse-Donor Coordinator, directly at (614) 566-0631
  • Call the general number for more information, at (614) 566-0630
  • Shoot an email to: MilkBank@OhioHealth.com expressing your interest in donating!
