Create Holiday Magic with this DIY Snow Globe!

Anyone with a snow globe knows the charm they hold, so why not make one at home? Follow this DIY and create holiday magic with your child.

No matter if you collect snow globes or just admire their beauty, making one all by yourself will be a hit for everyone in your family. School-aged kids will be able to get creative and design a little world they can hold in their hands.

This DIY is easier than you imagine. Plus, most of the items can be found at home. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Jars with Lids
  • Snow Globe Decorations*
  • Hot Glue
  • Glitter
  • Water
  • Glycerin or Baby Oil

*Before moving on, you can use any type of snow globe decorations. They just need to be able to fit on the jar’s lid and stick there. There are no limits to what you can create. Little plastic toys or festive figurines can all be used. Another great idea is to use laminated pictures of your child to put them in the scene. Whatever your child chooses will be perfect.

After gathering your ingredients it’s time to make a little world of your child’s imagination.

First, you’ll want to organize your snow globe decorations on the inside part of the lid. After your child figures out how they want it organized, assist them in gluing the decorations to the lid. You can use a hot glue gun or super glue for this.

While the glue is drying, it’s time to fill the jar. Add glitter into the jar before adding any liquid. This will help the glitter move around easier. Next, you’ll want to pour in the liquid. Your child will love helping pour the water and measure out 1/2 teaspoon of glycerin or baby oil. Of course, you can just use water, but the glycerin/oil will help slow the glitter from just falling. It just adds a little more magic.

Then, it’s time to put it all together. I would recommend gluing the lid to the jar. This will prevent any future messes! Others keep the jar and lid unglued to replenish and refill water as the years go on.

Once it’s all put together, you’ve made your very own snow globe!

Your child will love this activity and maybe want to make it for family members and friends as gifts. They’ll enjoy shaking their snow globe and admiring what they made.

This DIY will last for a long time and can be exciting to make again for the years ahead.
