Flourish: A Community’s Answer to the Childcare Crisis and Workforce Development Needs in Tuscarawas County

(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – This Spring, an innovative community initiative is slated to open its doors inside New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Flourish By Newsymom is more than just childcare and is designed to serve as a lifeline to the mothers and families of Tuscarawas County who are faced with the all-too-common dilemma of finding flexible childcare options and work-life balance.
Flourish is an extension of the dedicated efforts of Newsymom, a local online community that, for nearly a decade, has connected mothers with crucial resources and support.
Flourish by Newsymom is a natural progression of that dedication, rising to meet the complex needs of today’s families. Flourish isn’t just a continuation of a mission; it’s an evolution—a powerful response to the calls for action by mothers, employers, and communities alike. The vision of Flourish extends beyond the working parent, acknowledging the diverse scenarios of modern motherhood. It recognizes the mother studying for a degree, the one seeking a moment for herself, and the one aiming to grow professionally. Flourish is there to support all these endeavors, providing a safe and nurturing space for children while giving mothers the ability to dedicate time to pursue their own goals.
• 52% of working moms say access to childcare has made them consider leaving the workforce.
• 62% of mothers report getting less than 1 hour to themselves each day.
• 58% of moms report they are primarily responsible for the duties of running a household and caring for children.
The saying goes, ‘it takes a village,” but where in today’s fragmented world is that village? “Flourish is more than childcare. It’s more than personal development. It’s a movement. We recognize that the childcare crisis and workforce challenges cannot be addressed in isolation,” said Michaela Thomas, Executive Director. “Flourish is our community’s collective answer, a groundbreaking approach where every stakeholder – businesses, organizations, and individuals – unites to form a holistic support system that takes into account real-life needs.”
Flourish introduces a state-licensed, innovative supervised play area for children aged 18 months to 5 years, staffed with qualified, caring professionals. Families have the flexibility to entrust their children with us for anywhere between 1 to 4 hours each day. Flourish will be open seven days a week (Monday – Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.) to further accommodate local families. While we will provide the option for recurring bookings, similar to traditional childcare services, we firmly believe in the power of flexible childcare options to meet real-life needs – be it a job interview, uninterrupted shopping, time with a support network, work time for school, or something else.
Our mission is rooted in being there for families when needed without the pressure of a long-term commitment. At Flourish we’re not just offering childcare, we’re providing peace of mind and the freedom to adapt to life’s ever-changing demands. Here, children will thrive in early childhood educational programs and activities that prioritize growth and inclusivity. And, for mothers, Flourish By Newsymom is designed to serve as a supportive space to network, relax, or collaborate. Regular programs and workshops will also be held to promote growth and overall support. Flourish is poised to become a cornerstone of community development, a place where families, local businesses, and organizations can grow together.
We’re not just imagining a better future for childcare and community and workforce development – we’re building it. Flourish represents a commitment to the heart of our community – a commitment to our families.
In bringing this critical service to Tuscarawas County, Flourish is proud to be supported by foundational partners such as Empower Tusc and Freeport Press, whose invaluable collaboration is helping to turn our vision into reality.
