From Trash to Treasure: 5 Upcycling Projects

Kids are naturally creative. If you hand them an empty toilet paper roll, it immediately becomes a telescope. We’re bringing you and your family five fun and creative upcycling crafts to turn your trash into treasure!

Crafting with your family is a wonderful way to spend time together. It gives everyone a chance to be inventive and creative. When you upcycle, you give trash a new purpose. Check out some of these fun upcycling crafts to try out with your loved ones:

  1. Braided T-Shirt Bracelets
    Remember crafting friendship bracelets at the dining room table with your friends, sisters, or cousins? Gather up some old t-shirts and give them a new twist. You can find an easy DIY example here.
  2. Remelted Crayons
    If you have kids in your house, you likely have broken crayons and tiny, leftover crayon pieces. Gather them up and check out this easy craft to revive and reuse every color of the rainbow!
  3. DIY Vase
    You can craft a beautiful, festive new flower vase out of almost any container. If you have an old salsa jar, mason jar, or spaghetti sauce jar, you have a vase. Grab some paint and twine, and check out this link to transform your old jar.
  4. K-Cup Plant Starters
    If you can kick the k-cup habit, that’d be best, but if they’re still being used in your home, you will check two “green” boxes by using your cups as plant starters. Give your seedlings a safe home before planting them in your garden.
  5. Hold on to Old Wrapping Paper, Tissue Paper, and Newspapers
