The Ohio Department of Education is set to host an application workshop next month following a $35 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Officials note the money will be used to continue improving language and literacy development in Ohio students.
According to the Ohio Department of Education, approximately 95 percent of the award will go directly to local districts and community schools or early childhood providers to improve literacy for children from birth through grade 12.
Officials explained in a press release that the focus of the three-year grant is to serve the greatest number of students with disabilities, students living in poverty, English learners and students who have reading disabilities.
The Department will host a two-day Literacy Academy in Columbus January 17th-18th for those who are eligible to apply.
Academy participants will receive technical assistance with their applications, as well as instruction on improving evidence-based language and literacy instruction and interventions.
