Stark County voters and those in some districts across Summit, Carroll, Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties may see a property tax levy on the ballot in August.
Monday night the Stark County Educational Service Center governing board voted 3-1 to create a financing district that will include all 22 school districts the agency serves. The legislation also allows the center to levy a tax for school safety and security and mental health.
The 1.49-mill levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $52.15 a year in property taxes. If all 22 districts participate, the tax would generate around $13.2 million.
Districts can opt out and choose not to be a part of the program, which means their voters would not be asked to vote on the levy. ESC plans to meet April 19th to accept participating districts and take the first step in officially putting the levy on the ballot.
