Zada Contemporary Art Show set for September 10th at The Toolshed at Breitenbach Wine Cellars in Dover Art, music set to combine to benefit Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation.

The heart of an artist is often told through their work. Looking deep into a painting, a drawing, or a crafted piece and even a song often opens a a window into their soul.

Drawing on art and music, which were both special to the late Zachary Davis, the Art and Soul Gallery has teamed with Breitenbach Wine Cellars to host the ZADA Modern and Contemporary Art Show set for September 10 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Tool Shed at Breitenbach. 2022 marks the second year for the event that will benefit the Zachary Davis Memorial Foundation.

The nonprofit was created by Zachary’s mother, Anita Davis. He passed away on November 12, 2005 as the result of a drug overdose.

“Before he died, Zach told me if he could tell kids and prevent them from ever using, he would,” Davis shared.

As a result, the foundation was born. Today, Davis travels to area high schools to talk with students about the dangers of drug use and the lasting effects and consequences on an individual as well as their family.

In addition, the foundation supports youth activities that offer local children and young adults a place to express themselves and to be supported including YoungLife of Tuscarawas County, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, and Dover High School’s Youth to Youth Program. The foundation is also the keystone organization that administers five scholarships each year for students who are expanding their education in a field that is related to addiction ranging from counseling to nursing and community corrections. “It is important to me to offer hope and helping others further their education so that they can help change the future is one way to do just that,” Davis said. “Changing the life path of just one person is paramount.”

Zachary’s love of art through his drawings that were showcased at last year’s event was evident in his history as he attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. “He did a lot of modern style art,” Davis said.

This year a host of talented artisans will be showcasing and selling their creations to support the foundation and Zachary’s dream, Anita’s purpose – changing lives. For Kathi Tustin, one of the organizers of the event, it is exciting to see art and music come together to heal the soul. “The show will include jewelry, glass, water color, mixed media, acrylic, oil, pottery and much more,” she said. “We are excited that also returning this year will be live music.”

Local favorite Zac Pirillo will be on stage from 4 to 6 p.m. He will be followed by Mo’ Mojo who got the crowd going at last year’s event. and are taking the 6 to 9 p.m. time slot. “They are a hard-driving, high-energy Zydeco-based band from Cleveland,” Tustin shared.

The event also includes food and beverages featuring the amazing creations from the culinary crew at Donnie’s Tavern based in Zoar. A selection of fine wines from Breitenbach Wine Cellars will also round out the offerings.

“We hope you will save the date, September 10, to come out and join us for this wonderful event,” Tustin noted. “We hope you will take the time to meet the artists. We are striving to support both the foundation and all of our hard-working, creative artisans at this fun, and high-energy event.”
