(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Buckeye Career Center’s FFA chapter is celebrating recent award winners while preparing to head to the Ohio FFA Convention.
FFA chapter Vice President Shelia Troyer (Hiland/Ag & Diesel) has achieved her FFA State Degree and will be honored for the achievement at the Ohio FFA Convention May 2-3, 2019. Additionally, 2018 BCC graduates Britney Wayts (Carrollton/Ag & Diesel) and Ashley Smitley (Indian Valley/Natural Resources) achieved their American FFA Degrees and will be honored at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana this fall.
Students attending the Ohio FFA Convention this May include Nolan Hagan (Indian Valley/Natural Resources), Owen Quillin (Indian Valley/Natural Resources), Gavin Mullen (Strasburg/Natural Resources), and Seth Devault (Indian Valley/Natural Resources). These students will receive a banner to commemorate the team’s first place ranking in the Ohio Wildlife Management contest. Mullen will be honored for ranking first in individual Ohio Wildlife Management contest.

Also attending the convention is BCC FFA chapter president Gabe Gump (New Philadelphia/Commercial Truck). In other FFA news, the Envirothon teams traveled to Marietta recently to compete in the district three Soil and Water Envirothon.
The students completed practicums on soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry, and current environmental issues. BCC’s senior team of Gavin Mullen, Cedric Rummell (Indian Valley/Ag & Diesel), Seth Schuman (Tuscarawas Valley/Natural Resources), Hunter McKim (Claymont/Natural Resources), and Skylar Millhorn (Tuscarawas Valley/Natural Resources) placed first out of 31 teams. The team will represent the district at the state competition June 10-11, 2019 at Franciscan University in Steubenville.
