(New Philadelphia, Ohio) – Buckeye Career Center is asking voters to approve a renewal levy on the November ballot.
Superintendent Bob Alsept stressed that this is not a new tax and would not increase current taxes. “It was originally passed in 1994. This is a one mill levy that generates $2,750,000 per year. It is on a cycle to be renewed every five years.”
He explained that 75% of the money generated goes to the General Fund, which is used for salary, benefits, and perishable supplies. The other 25% of the dollars go to the Permanent Improvement Fund, which can only be used for building repairs, enhancements, or purchase of equipment or technology.
The levy currently costs the owner of a $100,000 property less than $3.00 per month.
“Once again, this does not increase taxes,” added Alsept. “Failure of this levy would severely impact personnel and equipment purchases. We have been fortunate that we have been able to maintain a top-notch facility with great instructors and labs that have modern equipment. Our enrollment has grown 45% in a four-year period.”
He noted that the facility offers valuable training and education when the need for skilled workers in the region, state and country has never been greater. “We hope the communities we serve will continue to support us as they have done in the past.”
