Cervical Cancer Awareness Month: Early detection saves lives

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s a great reminder to prioritize your health. Life gets busy, and between work, family, and everything else on your to-do list, it’s easy to put yourself last. But taking care of you matters, too!

Cervical cancer is often preventable and very treatable when caught early. That’s why regular screenings are such a big deal.

What Is Cervical Cancer?

Cervical cancer starts in the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus. Most cases are caused by a common virus called HPV (human papillomavirus). Many people are exposed to HPV at some point in their lives, and most never even know it.. but in some cases, it can lead to changes in cervical cells over time.

Here’s the tricky part: early cervical cancer usually doesn’t cause symptoms. That’s why screenings are so important—they can catch changes before they become cancer, or find cancer early when treatment works best.

Screenings Matter

Getting a Pap test or HPV test might not be anyone’s favorite appointment, but they’re quick, routine, and incredibly important. These screenings can:

  • Find abnormal cells before they turn into cancer

  • Detect cancer early, when it’s most treatable

  • Give you peace of mind about your health
