Don’t Let the Flu Slow You Down: Why Getting Your Flu Shot Matters

As the weather cools down and busy fall schedules take over, flu season is right around the corner. The good news? Protecting yourself and your family is simple—just roll up your sleeve for a flu shot!

Why Get the Flu Vaccine?

The flu vaccine is your best defense against influenza and its complications. Not only does the flu vaccine reduce your risk of getting sick, but even if you do catch the flu being vaccinated often means a milder illness and a faster recovery.

According to the CDC, the flu vaccination has also been shown to:

  • Reduce flu illnesses, doctor visits, and missed school or work days.

  • Lower the risk of serious complications, especially for young children, older adults, and those with chronic health conditions.

  • Protect not only you, but also the people around you—like infants who are too young to receive the vaccination.

Who Should Get the Flu Vaccine?

Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu shot every year. It’s especially important for young children, pregnant women, adults 65 and older, and anyone with certain medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.

When and Where to Get Vaccinated

The best time to get your flu shot is before the flu starts spreading in your community—ideally by the end of October.

To make it easy for everyone, the Tuscarawas County Health Department is hosting a convenient Drive-Thru Flu Vaccine Event on Thursday, October 16, with no appointment needed! Just drive up, stay in your car, and their team of healthcare professionals will take care of the rest.

If you can’t make the drive-thru event, don’t worry—you can still call the Tuscarawas County Health Department Medical Office at 330-343-5555, ext. 1810 to schedule a flu vaccine appointment.

Stay Healthy All Season Long

Getting your flu vaccine is a quick and easy way to protect yourself, your family, and your community. So grab your jacket, roll up your sleeve, and help keep Tuscarawas County healthy this fall!
