Financial Tip Friday is brought to you in partnership with the 1st National Bank of Dennison.Â
If your children are old enough to stay home alone, but a phone is not in the budget or desire for them to have access to- there are options!
Many parents wait until their children are driving to purchase a cell phone so what are the options to get ahold of your child without adding another plan to the budget line item?
Prepaid Phone
- Purchasing a pre-paid phone is optimal as it is a one-time fee for the phone, typically under $30 and has no contract month to month.
- Simple flip phones can be preset so a child only has to press their “speed dial” number and “send” to reach their parent.
Land-Line
- A landline is a telephone line that actually connects to phones that stay inside your home. This is an old-school concept but still works well. Most companies (if you already have internet or cable established) charge around 10-20 dollars per month for the line.
Tablet
- Tablets have the ability to connect virtually face to face with certain apps.
Smart Watch
- Some watches require an extra phone line added, but it may be at a cheaper rate.
Computer
- Set up a computer or laptop with the ability to call over the internet using different apps such as:
- Facebook messenger
- Facetime
- Google Duo
- JusTalk Kids
- Hangouts
- Telegram
Parent’s Telephone
Parents use their phones for work, to schedule fun, accomplish tasks and if one is a client of First National Bank of Dennison, banking. Beginning September 17, 2021, there will be a new 24-hour telephone banking system with brand new features. As children grow into teens and young adults, telephone banking has the potential to become a major mode of banking.
