Have the Most Fun This Summer- Inside and Out!

Parents & friends can strengthen relationships with kids with developmental disabilities by enjoying fun this summer with activities for all.

Including You is brought to you by the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Outdoor Activities

The weather is warming up and it’s a great time to start planning outdoor activities. Whether it’s adapted sports or a horseback riding lesson, there are many ways to get moving and have fun outside!

  • Swimming at the local pool
  • Hula Hooping
  • Swinging at the park
  • Horseback riding
  • Adaptive sports
  • Whatever your child shows an interest in trying!
What is “Adaptive Play”?

A quick search on Pinterest will help you discover adaptive play, adaptive toys, and do-it-yourself adaptive game ideas!

Indoor Activities

Not every day is warm and sunny. Spending time inside brings its own kind of fun. From motor skill development to silly moments in the family room, you can enjoy many giggle-producing activities with friends or kids with developmental disabilities.

  • Playing with puzzles or LEGOs
  • Karaoke
  • Yoga and stretching
  • Making art
  • Boardgames
  • Photography
  • A spontaneous dance party

Locally, the Lacey Performing Arts Center offers adaptive movement classes for kids and adults! The center has exciting plans on the horizon. It will expand and grow its services for community members with developmental disabilities.

Kids and adults with developmental disabilities may find their posture, balance, and movement affected. Playtime- inside or outside- shouldn’t be deterred by these factors.
