DIY Home Projects – Boot Scrubbers

If you’re looking for a way to protect your home’s floors and clean your boots this winter, try these DIY boot scrubbers.

This DIY Home Project is brought to you by Novosel Real Estate LTD.

Winter weather can cause havoc to roads and sidewalks, but it can track into your home too. Boots and shoes track in snow, water, and salt. This can damage your floors, which could end up costing you a lot of money.

One way to prevent this is by using boot scrubbers before coming through the door. Since they can be a little expensive, why not try to DIY.

Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Two scrub brushes
  • 1” x 6” x 36” board cut in half
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Drill
  • 5/32” bit
  • #12 x ¾” sheet metal screws
  • Saw (optional)

First, gather all your materials. Most of these items can be found at your local hardware or home improvement store.

If you go to a bigger store like Lowes or Home Depot, they’ll be able to cut the wood for you too! If not, use whatever saw you’re comfortable using.

When purchasing scrub brushes, keep this in mind. Plastic will last longer and not rot like wood will. On the other hand, wood scrub brushes are more sustainable to the environment. Either type will work perfectly with this DIY!

Next, take apart your scrub brush. If your scrub brush has a handle, you’ll want to separate them. Use a flathead screwdriver and pry it off. All you want to have is the brush base.
After your scrub brush is ready to go, it’s time to attach them to the boards. Line up the two boards beside each other, like an equal sign. Then, set your scrub brushes in the middle of the boards.

When you find exactly where you want the scrub brushes, take the 5/32″ bit and drill four holes in each scrub brush. Now it’s time to screw them in.

Use your drill and screws to secure the scrub brushes on the boards.

To use, just step on one side or the other and scrub away. Now you’ve made your own boot scrubber and will be able to protect your floors this winter.
