Senior Fair Shows at the Tuscarawas County Fair! – The Tuscarawas County Fair is right around the corner! Before you know it, events will be in full swing. A hot commodity comes in the form of the Senior Fair Shows, where judges will be judging participants’ projects for everything from handmade goods, arts, pies, agricultural products, and more! Learn more about some of the items being judged right here on Newsymom!

Here at Newsymom, we’re counting down the days until we can have fun at the Tuscarawas County Fair! (It’s 23 days, by the way…)

One of the things we’re most excited about are the Senior Fair Shows! During fair week, participants will have their submitted items judged within different departments/classes. Judges will give awards to each of the winners for various projects.

Learn more about some of the departments, classes, and judges who will be scoring participants’ projects:

Judge: Mary Dunfee, Superintendent

Assistants: Tyrone Brannon, Jacque Peters, John Hochstetler

Department 7 – Senior Fair Household Arts
Judging held on Saturday, September 17

Included in this department are some of these following class types:

    • Quilt
    • Crochet
    • Hand knitting
    • Embroidery
    • Machine Sewing
    • Pillows
Department 8 – Senior Fair Fine Arts
Judging held on Saturday, September 17

Included in this department are some of these following class types:

    • Oil, acrylic, and mixed media
    • Water color, poster color
    • Charcoal, pastel, conte, crayon, pen, and pencil
    • Photography (black & white, color)
Department 9 – Senior Fair Baked Goods
Judging held on Sunday, September 18 at 6 pm

Included in this department are some of these following class types:

    • Cakes (layered, sponge, etc.)
    • Cupcakes
    • Bread, rolls
    • Cookies
    • Brownies
    • Candy

Judge: Tyrone Brannon, Superintendent

Assistants: Kip Hursey & Wendy Vogel

Department 5 – Senior Fair Farm Products
Judging held on Monday, September 19

Included in this department are some of these following class types:

    • Fruits (Apples, Pears, Peaches, Prunes, Grapes, etc.)
    • Melons (Muskmelon, watermelon)
    • Vegetables (Cabbage, Cauliflower, Parsnips, Beets, etc.)
    • Grains
    • Seeds
    • Canning & Preserving Goods
    • Honey
    • And more!
Department 6 – Senior Fair Horticulture Products
Judging held on Monday, September 19 at 9am

Included in this department are some of these following class types:

    • The Artistic Division Exhibits, Theme: Nursery Rhymes
    • Specimen Division (Aromatic herbs, daisies, cosmos, dahlias, marigolds, petunias, etc.)
    • House Plant Division (African violets, orchids, hanging baskets, cactus, etc.)
Winners of horticulture projects win these various awards. “Please come see all the beautiful flowers!” says Wendy Vogel at the Tuscarawas County Fair. “It’s amazing to see how these people tend to these gorgeous flowers, some you may never have even heard of, all year through the heat. It’s such an incredible experience.”
