The Best Health in Breast Health

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes. They are just one amazing part of the wonderous woman’s body. Keeping them healthy should be a top priority.

This informational campaign comes to you in partnership with the Stark County Community Action Agency.

Breast cancer affects roughly 255,000 annually in the United States (CDC). The risk factors are anything but fair:

  • Being a woman
  • 50 years or older
  • Having changes in your BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes

Breast cancer does not only affect older women, but you are more at risk if you fall into those demographics.

How Do You Lower Your Risk?

Given that we’re all at risk of breast cancer, it’s important to know how to lower your risk of developing this illness.

  • Maintain a healthy diet and get the recommended amount of exercise
  • Avoid alcohol or limit alcohol consumption
  • Talk to your doctor about the risks of your medication, especially birth control
  • If available to you, breastfeed your children.

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in the US among women. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you were waiting for a sign to get your breasts checked and have a mammogram- this is it, ladies.

The SCCAA Community Actions Pathway HUB is an available resource for pregnant and new mothers in need of support, education, and community services.
