Women’s History Expert to Speak at Free Zoar Speaker Series

(Zoar, Ohio) – Traci Manning, the Curator of Education with the Mahoning Valley
Historical Society will present “The Pivotal Right—A History of the Women’s Suffrage
Movement” at the Historic Zoar Village Speaker Series on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

The free presentation will be held in the Historic Zoar Schoolhouse from 11 am to 12 pm.
Manning will present the brave and outspoken women who fought to gain voting rights in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their struggle, persecution, and prosecution are set against the backdrop of national history and the greater Civil Rights Movement.

Women of note in the presentation include Lucretia Mott, Lucy Stone, and Carrie Chapman Catt. Manning holds a B.A. in Religion and Civil War Era Studies from Gettysburg College and an M.A. in Applied History from Shippensburg University. She spent six years working for the National Park Service in various Civil War parks, including Gettysburg National Military Park, Vicksburg National Military Park, and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park before joining MVHS.
