A 4th grader at Claymont Intermediate has launched a drive to help kids in Texas in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
Kohlton Calvey’s mom Elaine Zurcher explained to Newsymom.com that her son felt compelled to help after seeing the news of what those in Texas are going through.
“He said mommy, what about these kids they’re going to school. What about when they go back, they’ll have nothing.”
And from there Zurcher said, Kohlton began to form an idea to help.
“He said, I want to collect school supplies and donate school supplies to the school.”
Zurcher said she is a proud parent and is working to make his goal come to fruition.
She is in the process of organizing a fundraising drive on September 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Those wishing to donate are asked to bring pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, lunch boxes, backpacks, glue, crayons, rulers, scissors and anything else they think kids across multiple grade levels, will need in school.
The date and time of the fundraiser have been confirmed, however; he location has yet to be announced.
Zurcher added that they are also looking for someone willing to donate a truck so that they can drive the supplies down to Texas.
Anyone interested in getting involved or with questions about the fundraiser is encouraged to call Zurcher at 740-229-2270.
